May 16, 2009 Severe Thunderstorms

A National Weather Service Storm Survey Team examined damage associated with a severe thunderstorm that tracked across southeast Chemung and southwest Tioga counties Saturday afternoon.

The team determined that a severe thundertorm produced isolated straight-line wind gusts to 80 mph across portions of southeast Chemung county between 445 and 500 PM on saturday, May 16th. Some of the damage that was observed with this storm included damage to the roof of an apartment building on Wyncoop Creek Road and extensive tree damage along a portion of west Drybrook Road. Both of these areas were north of the town of Chemung.
