• A major lake effect snow event occurred in Syracuse from the evening on 12/2/05 through the morning of 12/03/05.

  • The NAM model, viewed on a 40 km grid, accurately depicted the development of low-level convergence zone associated with the event.

  • A search of previous, similar events in our lake effect snow data base indicated that this event had the potential to produce at least a foot of snow.

  • Observational data indicated that this event occurred with a "Lake Superior to Lake Huron to Lake Ontario" connection, and strong low-level shear near Syracuse.
