Summary

  • A significant elevation-dependent snowstorm occurred over central NY and northeast Pa on October 25th, 2005.

  • Most of the snow occurred with a band of enhanced precipitation.

  • The intensity of the band was related to the strength and slope of the frontogenesis, as well as the degree of reduced stability co-located with the frontogenesis.

  • The main short-term forecast challenge was to accurately forecast the development, movement and evolution of the band.
