As part of the Open Burning Weather Awareness Campaign from the National Weather Service in Burlington, we will examine some of the
fire weather products and services from the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service in Burlington, Vermont issues daily fire weather forecasts for forestry personnel and the general public.
This product provides important information related to such important elements as temperature, humidity, winds, and other elements related
to fire weather. An example of a daily fire weather forecast can be seen below.

When critial fire weather conditions such as low relative humidities, strong winds, and extended periods of little or no precipitation
develop in combination with dry fuels, the National Weather Service calls that a red flag event. If the potential exists for a red flag event
to develop, a Fire Weather Watch will be issued. If a red flag event is expected, a Red
Flag Warning will be issued. These products alert you to the fact that personal property and firefighter safety could be significantly
impacted if a wildfire were to develop.
