2008 Skywarn Recognition Day
WX1BTV participated in the 10th annual Skywarn Recognition Day, held on Dec 6 2008 from 00:00 to 24:00 UTC. Thanks to the generous volunteers of local Amateur Radio operators, WX1BTV was on the air for the full 24 hours, a first for this station!
There was significant noise and high SWR, especially on 80 meters, and the overall number of contacts was down from last year. Despite the hardships, WX1BTV passed last year's number of contacts with other National Weather Service Offices, with a total of 10 contacts to 9 offices. NWS Des Moines (K0DMX) was worked twice, on 80 and 20 meters, and Lincoln IL (WX9ILX) was worked on CW. Other NWS offices worked were Paducah KY (W4P), Indianapolis IN (W9NWS), Melbourne FL (WX4MLB), Omaha NE (W0NWS), Grand Forks ND (N0GF), Jacksonville FL (WX4JAX), and Springfield MO (N0NWS).
WX1BTV worked a total of 40 stations in 16 states including the 9 National Weather Service offices, and one Canadian province (Quebec).
A heartfelt thank you goes to volunteers Ron (NW1V), Tom (KB1NGQ), Carl (AB1DD), Ed (W1OKH), and Arnie (W2HDI) for their enthusiasm and expertise. Ed was our CW operator who worked WX9ILX (see photo).
NWS Burlington staff that participated in the event were John (KB1QI), Paul (KB1QBJ), Maureen (KB1QBH), Scott (KB1QBK), and Greg (KB1GYE).
