Like to schedule a SKYWARN™ talk?

Skywarn™ training is conducted year round, though due to staffing resources, we are limited to some degree on the number of talks offered during any given month. We often work through County Emergency Management Agencies in northern New York, as well as with local amateur radio groups, LEPC and CERT groups from across northern New York and Vermont. Working with/through these groups may be a good place to start if you re considering hosting a Skywarn™ training session. To arrange a Skywarn™ talk with the National Weather Service in Burlington, please have the following ready before contacting us:

  1. Have a facility, date and time established, with preferably a back-up date and time. Email John Goff, Skywarn™ Program Leader at john.goff@noaa.gov to check availability.
  2. Class sizes are generally offered for at least 10, and preferably at least 15 individuals. Please ensure at least 10 individuals will attend.
  3. Classes will generally be offered Monday through Thursday, though if planned well in advance, exceptions may be made for a Saturday date.
  4. Talks are usually held in the evening with start times from 5pm to 7pm and last approximately 1 to 2 hours.
  5. Provide a volunteer, or contact point from your group to help in organizing the talk.
  6. All Skywarn™ training is free, and open to the public.
