Regional Ice Cover Feb 8th, 2003

This image was taken at 12:31PM on February 8th.  Lake Ontario is mainly ice free except on its northeast end near the St. Lawrence River.  Lake Erie is mostly ice-covered except for a very interesting open area to the east of Long Point.  The deep Finger Lakes are mostly ice free (note the dark contrast of the water surface).  Shallower bodies of water including Oneida Lake, Chautauqua Lake and the Allegany Reservoir show up as bright white, indicating a frozen, ice and snow-covered surface.
