Lake Erie Zoomed Ice Cover Feb 8th, 2003

Notice the hole to the east of Long Point on Lake Erie.  After a high wind event some of the ice must have broken up and moved around.  In fact, the Niagara River ice boom broke and some of the ice had worked its way down the Niagara River.  The boom was repaired however and this image actually shows a dark area at the east end of Lake Erie, where the Niagara begins, so it looks like the boom is once again keeping the river free of ice.
