Visible satellite image of ice cover February 6, 2000

Another look at the ice cover in early February.  We want to point out some other bodies of water in this image as well as Lake Erie.  If you are up on your geography, you should be able to pick out the white sliver of ice-covered Chautauqua Lake, the "squiggle" on the Penn State line in Cattaraugus county that is the Allegheny Resevoir and further east across Central New York you will see the almond shaped Oneida Lake and even Sacandaga Resevoir. Of course, the bigger Finger Lakes are so deep that it takes quite awhile to freeze them over completely.
