Lake Erie ice cover Jan 21st, 2004

This image was taken at 11:31AM on January 21st.  The open water that is on Lake Erie is pretty much confined to its eastern end of the lake, where the depth of the lake is the greatest.  The far west end of the lake looks to be fully ice-covered, though some high cloud cover is masking the ice there.  Over the east end of the lake we are still dealing with some lake effect cloud cover (that must mean there is still a fair amount of open water out there).  If you have the bandwidth, check out the loop and you will able to see the ice cover a bit better.
