A comparison of close-up views of Lake Erie (above) and Lake Ontario (bottom) show significant differences in ice cover between the two lakes.  That's all ice on Lake Erie.  On Lake Ontario there is a lot of lake-induced cloud over the center of the lake, the only ice cover is at the northeast end of the lake including the Thousand Islands Region.
