THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO NY HAS CONFIRMED A TORNADO
WITH AN INITIAL TOUCHDOWN NEAR PAYNESVILLE IN ALLEGANY COUNTY AROUND
1105 PM SUNDAY NIGHT...CONTINUING EAST INTO WILLEYVILLE IN STUEBEN
COUNTY AT 1120 PM. THE FIRST EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE WAS FOUND ON
PAYNESVILLE RD. WHERE THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM SURVEY TEAM
NOTED SOME MINOR TREE DAMAGE.  MORE WIDESPREAD TREE DAMAGE WAS FOUND
ON SNOW RD.  FURTHER DOWN SNOW RD...A BARN AND TWO SMALL FARM
BUILDINGS WERE DESTROYED.  THE BARN HAD TOPPLED OVER ALTHOUGH
PORTIONS OF THE ROOF WERE STILL INTACT.  DEBRIS FROM THE BARN WAS
FOUND SCATTERED THROUGHOUT THE AREA...BOTH UPSTREAM AND DOWNSTREAM
FROM THE BARN LOCATION.  SEVERAL SMALL CIRCULAR AREAS OF BLOWN DOWN
GRASS WERE ALSO NOTED UPSTREAM OF THE BARN LOCATION.  THE DIAMETER
OF THESE CIRCLES RANGED FROM 10 FEET TO 30 FEET.  NEARBY ON SAUNDERS
RD...NUMEROUS TREES WERE FOUND UPROOTED...SNAPPED...AND TWISTED IN
MULTIPLE DIRECTIONS.  THE ROAD WAS IMPASSIBLE FOR NEARLY 250 YARDS.
CONTINUING EAST INTO STUEBEN COUNTY...TREE DAMAGE CONTINUED ON
CRAMER RD.  THE PATH WIDTH WAS ABOUT 100 YARDS WIDE AT THIS
LOCATION.  A POWER POLE WAS KNOCKED DOWN HERE AND A NEARBY SMALL
STRUCTURE WAS DESTROYED.  TREE DAMAGE WAS ALSO NOTED FURTHER TO THE
EAST ON COUNTY RD 124 AND SQUAB HOLLOW RD.  A CAR SUSTAINED DAMAGE
FROM A FALLEN TREE IN THIS AREA...AND MINOR NON-STRUCTURAL DAMAGE
WAS NOTED AT A HOME.  ADDITIONAL MINOR TREE DAMAGE WAS NOTED FURTHER
TO THE EAST ON DAY RD.

THE TORNADO WAS RATED AN EF1 WITH ESTIMATED WIND SPEEDS OF 100 TO
110 MPH. THE TRACK LENGTH OF THE TORNADO WAS 7 MILES WITH A MAXIMUM
PATH WIDTH OF 250 YARDS.
