THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO NY HAS CONFIRMED A TORNADO
TOUCHED DOWN NEAR SAVANNAH IN WAYNE COUNTY AND MOVED TOWARD THE
EAST AS FAR AS CONQUEST IN CAYUGA COUNTY NEW YORK ON AUGUST 21,
2011.

NATIONAL WEATHER REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE FORECAST OFFICE IN
BUFFALO NEW YORK CONDUCTED A DAMAGE SURVEY IN EASTERN WAYNE AND
NORTHERN CAYUGA COUNTIES AS A RESULT OF SEVERE WEATHER THAT MOVED
THROUGH THE REGION ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

THE ASSESSMENT CONCLUDED THAT AN EF2 TORNADO STRUCK EASTERN WAYNE
AND NORTHERN CAYUGA COUNTIES. DAMAGE ALONG THE PATH RANGED FROM
NUMEROUS STANDS OF LARGE TREES SNAPPED HALFWAY UP THEIR TRUNKS...TO
OVER A DOZEN POWER POLES TAKEN DOWN...TO ENTIRE ROOFS REMOVED FROM
TWO HOMES. SEVERAL OUT BUILDINGS INCLUDING BARNS WERE COMPLETELY
DESTROYED. ONE EYEWITNESS REPORTED SEEING TWO FUNNELS, ONE WHICH
MOVED ACROSS A HOME TAKING OFF ITS ROOF.
