AREA...

THE HEAT WAVE THAT BEGAN ON AUGUST 5TH HAS BEEN ONE OF THE HOTTEST 
IN RECENT MEMORY...BUT THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER REMARKABLE HEAT WAVES 
THAT HAVE OCCURRED.

THE HEAT WAVE OF JULY 7TH THROUGH THE 21ST IN 1986 WAS ONE OF THE 
MORE MEMORABLE. THERE WERE 13 OF 15 DAYS WHERE THE TEMPERATURE 
CLIMBED TO 100 DEGREES OR HIGHER AT THE COLUMBIA METRO AIRPORT. THIS 
HEAT WAVE ALSO HOLDS THE RECORD FOR THE MOST CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF 100 
DEGREES OR HIGHER...WITH 8.

CONTINUED THROUGH THE 30TH.

OF 11 DAYS WHEN THE TEMPERATURE REACHED 100 DEGREES OR HIGHER. THE 
HEAT WAVE THAT HIT THE REGION FROM LATE JUNE OF 1990 INTO EARLY JULY 
OF 1990 PRODUCED THE LONGEST CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF 100 DEGREES OR 
HIGHER AT AUGUSTA REGIONAL BUSH FIELD...WITH 7.
