...AUGUST HEAT WAVE CONTINUES ACROSS THE MIDLANDS AND CENTRAL 
SAVANNAH RIVER AREA...

...RECORD NUMBER OF 100 DEGREE OR HIGHER DAYS FOR AUGUST AT 
COLUMBIA...

THE HEAT WAVE THAT BEGAN ON AUGUST 5TH HAS BEEN ONE OF THE HOTTEST 
ON RECORD. DURING THE PERIOD OF WEATHER RECORDS AT BOTH COLUMBIA, 
SOUTH CAROLINA AND AUGUSTA, GEORGIA...THERE ARE ONLY A FEW MONTHS 
THAT HAVE PRODUCED MORE 100 DEGREE OR HIGHER TEMPERATURE DAYS THAN 
AUGUST OF 2007.

HIGHER FOR COLUMBIA:

AT BOTH COLUMBIA AND AUGUSTA...AUGUST 2007 HAS PRODUCED THE GREATEST 
NUMBER OF 100 DEGREE DAYS OR HIGHER FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST SINCE 
RECORDS BEGAN. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE AT THE COLUMBIA METRO AIRPORT ON 
THE 21ST WAS 102 DEGREES. THIS WAS THE 13TH DAY THAT THE MAXIMUM 
TEMPERATURE HAS CLIMBED TO 100 DEGREES OR HIGHER DURING THE MONTH OF 
AUGUST. THE PREVIOUS RECORD FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST WAS 12 DAYS BACK 
IN 1900. FORECAST HIGHS FOR TODAY CALL FOR TEMPERATURES TO BE AROUND 
100 DEGREES FOR BOTH COLUMBIA AND AUGUSTA. 

TEMPERATURE RECORDS FOR AUGUSTA BEGAN IN 1874 AND FOR COLUMBIA IN 
1887.
