MONTHLY WEATHER SUMMARY FOR THE MIDLANDS AND CSRA FOR SEPTEMBER 2012.

...BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION RETURNS FOR MUCH OF THE AREA FOR
SEPTEMBER...
...TEMPERATURES CLOSE TO NORMAL FOR THE MONTH...
...FLASH FLOOD EVENT ACROSS LANCASTER COUNTY ON THE 17TH...


.SUMMARY...
AS A GENERAL RULE...THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER WAS VERY QUIET ACROSS THE
MIDLANDS AND CENTRAL SAVANNAH RIVER AREA OF GEORGIA. TEMPERATURES
WERE VERY CLOSE TO NORMAL THROUGHOUT THE MONTH. HOWEVER...RAINFALL
WAS BELOW NORMAL ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA. THE WETTEST PORTION OF THE
AREA WAS ACROSS THE WESTERN AND NORTHERN MIDLANDS WHERE 3 TO 6
INCHES OF RAIN FELL. THE DRIEST AREA WAS ACROSS THE EASTERN
MIDLANDS...ESPECIALLY THE SOUTHEAST MIDLAND COUNTIES OF BAMBERG AND
BARNWELL COUNTIES. RAINFALL AMOUNTS RANGED FROM LESS THAN ONE INCH
UP TO 2 INCHES ACROSS THE AREA.


.TEMPERATURE...

.COLUMBIA SC...
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH AT COLUMBIA METROPOLITAN
AIRPORT WAS 80.4 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 0.4 DEGREES COOLER THAN THE
NORMAL AUGUST AVERAGE OF 80.8 DEGREES. NO DAILY RECORD HIGH OR
LOW TEMPERATURES WERE SET OR TIED. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE OF THE
MONTH WAS 97 ON THE 2ND. THE COOLEST TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH WAS 63
ON THE 25TH AND 26TH.

.AUGUSTA GA...
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH AT AUGUSTA BUSH FIELD WAS 78.8
DEGREES...WHICH WAS 1.7 DEGREES COOLER THAN THE NORMAL AUGUST
AVERAGE OF 80.5 DEGREES. NO DAILY RECORD HIGH OR LOW TEMPERATURES
WERE SET OR TIED. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH WAS 95 ON THE
2ND AND 3RD. THE COOLEST TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH WAS 62 ON THE 25TH
AND 26TH.


.RAINFALL...

.COLUMBIA SC...
1.84 INCHES OF RAIN FELL AT COLUMBIA METROPOLITAN AIRPORT DURING THE
MONTH OF SEPTEMBER...WHICH IS 1.70 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL SEPTEMBER
VALUE OF 3.54 INCHES. IT WAS THE 25TH DRIEST SEPTEMBER ON RECORD AT
COLUMBIA.

.AUGUSTA GA...
1.84 INCHES OF RAIN FELL AT AUGUSTA BUSH FIELD DURING THE MONTH OF
SEPTEMBER...WHICH IS 1.38 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL SEPTEMBER MONTHLY
VALUE OF 3.22 INCHES.


.NOTABLE WEATHER EVENTS...

ON THE MORNING OF THE 17TH...A FLASH FLOOD EVENT OCCURRED DURING THE
EARLY MORNING HOURS OF THE 17TH ACROSS EASTERN LANCASTER COUNTY. A
FRONTAL BOUNDARY STALLED NEAR THE BORDER OF NORTH AND SOUTH CAROLINA
ALONG WITH A VERY MOIST ATMOSPHERE WAS THE FOCUS FOR AN EXTREMELY
HEAVY RAINFALL EVENT. IN A PERIOD OF 3 TO 6 HOURS 8 TO 10 INCHES OF
RAIN FELL ACROSS EASTERN LANCASTER COUNTY. THERE WERE NUMEROUS
REPORTS OF ROADWAYS AND CREEKS FLOODED ACROSS THAT PORTION OF THE
COUNTY. A CREEK WAS OVER A BRIDGE ALONG HIGHWAY 9 NEAR THE BORDER OF
LANCASTER AND CHESTERFIELD COUNTIES. A WATER RESCUE OCCURRED ON
LANGLEY ROAD DUE TO THE HIGH WATER. SEVERAL CARS WERE SUBMERGED IN
WATER.

ORANGEBURG SC COUNTY AIRPORT.........35 MPH ON THE 29TH
