Frost / Freeze Warnings Concluded for Northern Maine


Widespread low temeratures from the upper 20s to around 30 degrees have recently been observed across northern Maine on three occasion. As a result, the frost / freeze warning program for the fall growing season is now finished for all of Aroostook county and the northern portions of Somerset, Penobscot, and Piscatiquis counties. Note that the climatological average date of first freeze in these areas is September 20.

The Caribou Weather Forecast Office's frost / freeze warning program will continue for the remaining parts of central and downeast Maine in its warning area until widespread freezing temperatures occur. This includes all of Washington and Hancock counties as well as the southern portions of Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. The climatological average date of first freeze in these areas is October 4.
