New England has been in a wet pattern for much of May and June. A highly amplified persistent upper level weather pattern has set up over the United States during this period. The result of this pattern is an upper level trough over the northeast that provides cool and wet conditions.
In Maine...some portions of the western and northern part of the state have received around 5 to 15 inches of rainfall over the past 30 days. Downeast and coastal locations have recieved much less (~1 to 3 inches). When compared to the climatological normal rainfall amounts for this same time period...western and northern locations are running about 125 to 140 percent of normal. See the maps below for an illustration.
