Open House at the National Weather Service
Caribou, Maine
August 29, 2009
On Saturday, August 29th, the National Weather Service in Caribou, ME will hold an open house from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm . The open house is part of Caribou’s 150th Anniversary and also celebrates the 10th year anniversary of the Caribou Forecast Office.
The event is free and open to the public. It will provide a great opportunity for the public and media to learn more about your National Weather Service.
At the open house, visitors will see and learn about:
- Official new weather observations—surface and upper air—a weather balloon will be on display
- Volunteer weather observing networks including the cooperative program, trained spotter program and the new CoCoRaHS project.
- The NOAA and NWS organization, the Caribou Weather Forecast office area of responsibility, and programs
- An overview of our web pages and NOAA weather radio
- Displays of satellite, doppler radar, and weather maps
- Forecast operations and the warning decision process
- An overview of computer systems and communications
The open house will be held rain or shine. Since there is limited room in the facility, some visitors may need to wait outside for a short time. The first tour will begin at 10:00 am and the last will begin at 2:00 pm. There is no registration. People will be taken on a first come, first served basis.
For security reasons, no bags, backpacks, or purses are permitted in the building. Please leave them in your car. Cameras are allowed.
