The National Weather Service (NWS) is looking for new volunteers to participate in the Snow Observer Program. Program info/instructions will be mailed to you after you complete the following form (below). If you are already in the program, you do not need to re-apply.  

We are currently do not need new observers from Chardon, Ashtabula and Warren OH, otherwise we welcome new volunteers from northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania. We especially need a new observer in North Royalton as well as all locations west of I-71, including Lorain, Findlay, Tiffin, Upper Sandusky, and Mansfield, OH. We could also use volunteers from southern Crawford County, PA (south of Meadville).

The National Weather Service Snow Observer Program is a volunteer program. Snow observers phone or e-mail the Cleveland NWS office twice a day when it snows (in the morning and again in the evening) with the 12 hour snowfall amount and the total snow on the ground. You also record the information on a monthly log which you mail to the NWS Forecast Office in Cleveland at the end of each month (postage paid).

Meteorologists at the Forecast Office use your data to assist in making forecasts and issuing snow warnings or advisories. Your monthly logs are used to document monthly and seasonal snowfall at your location and also for research purposes. Your snow observations are VERY important to us and we appreciate your participation. Your consistency is an important aspect of the program.
