About the WRF model at WFO CLE

Local modeling at NWS Cleveland

The National Weather Service office in Cleveland Ohio runs the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model on a daily basis.
Three domains have been configured and output from each run can be viewed on this page. The ARW core has been selected as the
core of choice due to its highly configurable design. Two domains are initialized from the operational WRF 12km model run at
NCEP, one domain is configured from the operational GFS.

Information about the two domains:
NAM initialized 12km outer domain:ARW core, Thompson Microphysics, KF Convective Scheme, Yonsei Univ. PBL scheme, LAPS hot-start, run to F36hrs
NAM initialized 4km inner domain: ARW core, Thompson Microphysics, Explicit Convective Scheme, Yonsei Univ. PBL scheme, LAPS hot-start, run to F36hrs
Two way nesting has been employed between the NAM initialized 12km and 4km domains.

GFS initialized 12km domain: ARW core, WSM-6 Microphysics, KF Convective Scheme, Yonsei Univ. PBL scheme, run to F60hrs

Production schedule

WRF model output from each domain is available 4 times per day. Below is a timetable outlining the average time images become available on this page:
