Summer Refuses to end in Central Pennsylvania Record Warm October |
Although the calender said October, it certainly felt more like August during the first part of October.
The abnormally warm temperatures set record Maximum (High) Temperatures at both Harrisburg and Williamsport on Monday and Tuesday (10/8 and 10/9).
The temperature reached 88 degrees at Harrisburg at 3:01 PM, and 90 degrees at Williamsport at 3:12 PM on Monday.
The temperature reached 89 degrees at Harrisburg at 2:41 PM, and 89 degrees at Williamsport at 2:06 PM on Tuesday.
The hottest temperature ever recorded in October at Harrisburg (Middletown) was 96 on Oct 7, 1941.
The hottest temperature ever recorded in October at Williamsport was 93 on Oct 2, 1927.
A strong upper level ridge that migrated westward from the East Coast into the Tennessee and lower Ohio Valleys, and a Surface High Pressure centered over the Eastern U.S. created a string of very warm and sunny days for Central PA. The persistent southerly wind flow helped to bring us the unseasonably warm air, and abnormally high humidity levels.
The average highs during this stretch ranged from 68-69 at Harrisburg (Middletown) and 65-67 at Williamsport.
