Signficant Ice Accumulation Will Make For Hazardous Travel
A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM ORGANIZING OVER THE LOWER TENNESSEE VALLEY EARLY THIS MORNING WILL BRING WINTRY WEATHER TO THE REGION TODAY. A MIXTURE OF FREEZING RAIN...SLEET AND SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD THE AREA EARLY THIS MORNING AND CONTINUE THROUGH MID-DAY BEFORE GRADUALLY CHANGING OVER TO RAIN FROM SOUTH TO NORTH LATER THIS AFTERNOON. HOWEVER, POCKETS OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN COULD PERSIST ACROSS THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL MOUNTAINS WHERE THE LOW-LEVEL COLD AIR WILL BE MORE DIFFICULT TO SCOUR OUT. SOME LOCATIONS COULD SEE SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATION ON THE ORDER OF ONE-QUARTER TO ONE-HALF INCH.

HAZARDOUS TRAVEL IS EXPECTED THROUGH THE MORNING COMMUTE AND MAY PERSIST INTO THE EARLY AFTERNOON.

WINTER STORM WARNINGS AND ADVISORIES ARE IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING.
