How much snow will fall in my area?
See more of the Official CTP/NDFD Forecast Maps. Mouse over the "Snow Amount" labels to the left of the map, and bump forward and back to different time periods (days) using the red arrows at the top-left of the map.
Also, enter your "City, ST" in the box (to the left), and read the detailed, Grid-point forecast for your location (you can click on the tan map on the page that shows up to get a different point's forecast). For even more information, you can select the "Hourly Weather Graph" at the bottom-right of the page that displays (under "Additional Forecasts and Information"). The snowfall accumulations on the Hourly Weather Graph will be detailed in a light-yellow line just above the chance of snow bar graph. The grids will be separated in appropriate time blocks, depending on the timing of each storm, exactly as the forecasters have painted it.
What's falling right now?
See the current radar reflectivity from the Central PA radar (KCCX) or the Regional Mosaic of radars. Remember that the radar cannot determine the precipitation type, and that wet snowflakes or ice pellets will return high amounts of energy to the radar, and may lead to over-estimation of rain/snowfall.
See a map of the observations Java Version, or just a JPG Image_(Legend to JPG Image).
Snowfall intensity can be inferred from the observations by reading the visibility - found to the left of the station circle, along with a current weather-type (snow/rain/freezing rain) symbol. Heavy snow restricts visibility greatly/sometimes to near-zero (a whiteout).
