FLOOD WATCH
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BUFFALO NY
1032 PM EDT SUN APR 13 2014

...POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING THROUGH AT LEAST MID WEEK...

WARM TEMPERATURES THROUGH MONDAY WILL RESULT IN RAPID SNOWMELT
ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF THE TUG HILL PLATEAU AND WESTERN
ADIRONDACKS. A LARGE QUANTITY OF STORED WATER IS STILL PRESENT
ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF THE TUG HILL AND WESTERN
ADIRONDACKS.

WATER LEVELS ON SMALLER CREEKS AND STREAMS WILL CONTINUE TO RUN
NEAR BANKFULL TONIGHT AND MONDAY AS VERY WARM TEMPERATURES BRING
AN ALMOST COMPLETE MELT OF THE REMAINING SNOWPACK. RAIN WILL
ARRIVE MONDAY EVENING AND CONTINUE THROUGH TUESDAY BEFORE ENDING
AS SNOW. THIS WILL PRODUCE FURTHER RUNOFF AND LEAD TO AN ENHANCED
RISK OF FLOODING.

SNOW MELT WILL CAUSE RIVERS AND CREEKS TO REMAIN STEADY OR SLOWLY
RISE THROUGH MONDAY. A GREATER RISK FOR FLOODING WILL COME
TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY DUE TO RUN OFF FROM RAINFALL ON MONDAY
NIGHT AND TUESDAY.

PEOPLE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING...ESPECIALLY ALONG
LARGER MAIN STEM RIVERS...SHOULD TAKE TIME TO PREPARE FOR THE
POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT FLOODING INTO MID WEEK AND LISTEN FOR
POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SLOWER RESPONDING RIVERS MAY REMAIN ABOVE
FLOOD STAGE FOR SOME TIME...POSSIBLY LASTING UNTIL LATE WEEK.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT...

THE FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* A PORTION OF CENTRAL NEW YORK...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING
  COUNTIES...JEFFERSON...LEWIS AND OSWEGO.

* THROUGH LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

* SNOW MELT FOLLOWED BY RAIN WILL BRING AN ENHANCED RISK FOR
FLOODING. THE GREATEST POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING WILL BE ALONG
STREAMS AND RIVERS WHICH HAVE SOURCE REGIONS ACROSS THE TUG
  HILL PLATEAU AND WESTERN ADIRONDACKS.

* THE INITIAL FLOOD RISK FROM EXCESSIVE RUNOFF WILL BE ALONG
SMALLER STREAMS AND CREEKS. EVENTUALLY THAT FLOOD RISK WILL
SPREAD TO THE LARGER STEM RIVERS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON
CURRENT FORECASTS. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE
ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO
FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING
DEVELOP. STAY TUNED TO WEATHER RADIO OR OTHER RADIO AND TV
STATIONS FOR FURTHER DETAILS OR UPDATES
