...SUMMARY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON OH HAS CONFIRMED A
TORNADO 2 MILES SW OF WARSAW IN GALLATIN COUNTY KENTUCKY ON
JULY 7 2014.

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SURVEY TEAM EVALUATED DAMAGE TO
DOCKS AND ASSOCIATED STRUCTURES AT CRAIGS CREEK LAKE. THE
MOST SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE OCCURRED TO A LARGE DOCK NEAR THE
MARINA ENTRANCE ALONG US ROUTE 42 SOUTHWEST OF WARSAW. A
SECTION OF ROOFING AND ASSOCIATED SUPPORTING STRUCTURE
APPROXIMATELY 75X75 FEET WAS DESTROYED AND DEPOSITED
IMMEDIATELY SOUTHWEST OF THE ORIGINAL LOCATION. THE ENTIRE
DOCK MEASURED APPROXIMATELY 100X225 FEET...AND WAS ATTACHED
TO A NUMBER OF METAL POLES ANCHORED INTO THE LAKE BOTTOM.
THESE POLES WERE APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES IN DIAMETER AND
WERE ALL BENT AT LEAST SEVERAL DEGREES TOWARD THE
SOUTHWEST...INDICATING THE ENTIRE STRUCTURE WAS MOVED IN
THAT DIRECTION. THIS MOVEMENT WAS PERPENDICULAR TO THE
APPARENT STORM MOTION AT THAT TIME ASCERTAINED FROM RADAR.
TREE DAMAGE WAS ALSO OBSERVED ON AN ISLAND APPROXIMATELY 150
YARDS EAST OF THIS DOCK. SEVERAL TREES THAT APPEARED TO BE
4-8 INCHES IN DIAMETER HAD FALLEN TOWARD THE NORTHWEST.
SEVERAL TREES OF SIMILAR SIZE WERE ALSO NOTED TO BE DOWNED
ALONG THE WESTERN SHORE OF THE LAKE NEAR KNOX LILLARD ROAD.
THESE TREES WERE ORIENTED EAST AND SOUTHEAST.

EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS RELAYED THROUGH THE GALLATIN COUNTY
EMA OFFICE DESCRIBED A VORTEX COMING UP FROM THE WATER THAT
WAS TWISTING AND DRAWING WATER UP INTO THE AIR. THESE
ACCOUNTS...COUPLED WITH THE APPARENT COUNTER-CLOCKWISE
ORIENTATION OF DAMAGE DESCRIBED ABOVE INDICATE THAT A
CIRCULATION BRIEFLY TOUCHED DOWN IN THIS VICINITY OF
CRAIGS CREEK LAKE.

ADDITIONAL STRUCTURE DAMAGE WAS ALSO NOTED FARTHER SOUTHEAST
ALONG KNOX LILLARD ROAD...APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE SOUTHEAST
OF THE THE INTERSECTION WITH US ROUTE 42. ROOF COVERING AND
SEVERAL CONCRETE CINDER BLOCKS SECURING A PATIO ROOF WERE
LIFTED FROM A STRUCTURE ALONG THE SHORELINE. THIS MATERIAL
WAS DEPOSITED 50-100 FEET SOUTH OF THE ORIGINAL LOCATION.
THE ORIENTATION OF THIS DAMAGE FURTHER SUPPORTS THE OPINION
THAT THERE WAS A COUNTER-CLOCKWISE CIRCULATION IN THE LAKE
THAT HAD MOVED SLIGHTLY SOUTHEAST FROM THE POINT OF
TOUCHDOWN...RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THIS STRUCTURE.

NO FURTHER DAMAGE WAS NOTED IN THIS AREA...SUGGESTING THAT
THE TORNADO WAS BRIEF AND LIFTED BEFORE CROSSING ONTO THE
SHORE NEAR THE WESTERN END OF HILL-N-DALE ROAD.

THANKS ARE EXTENDED TO THE GALLATIN COUNTY EMA AND THE
STATE OF KENTUCKY EMA FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE TO THIS SURVEY.
