...STORM DAMAGE IN FREEPORT MAINE...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GRAY MAINE HAS REVIEWED
RADAR IMAGES AND SPOKEN WITH LOCAL EMERGENCY PERSONNEL
CONCERNING THE DAMAGE REPORTED LAST EVENING IN FREEPORT
MAINE. EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS REPORTED THAT GUSTY
WINDS FROM THE THUNDERSTORM BLEW DOWN SEVERAL TREES IN THE
AREA. ONE OF THE DOWNED TREES KNOCKED OUT POWER TO PARTS
OF THE TOWN.

RADAR IMAGES SHOWED A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS MOVING THROUGH
THE AREA AT ABOUT 8:10 LAST EVENING. THE HEAVY RAIN FROM
THOSE STORMS LIKELY PRODUCED STRAIGHT LINE WIND GUSTS OF 50
TO 60 MPH.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GRAY TYPICALLY CONDUCTS
STORM DAMAGE SURVEYS ONLY WHEN TORNADO DAMAGE IS SUSPECTED
OR WHEN A STORM PRODUCES SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OVER A LARGE
AREA. NO SURVEY IS PLANNED FOR THE STORM THAT AFFECTED
THE FREEPORT AREA LAST EVENING.
