The Operations Area (continued)
Here we have our NAWAS (National Warning System) phones. The handset on the far right is the Hurricane Hotline. This hotline is administered by NOAA and is used as our primary internal coordination tool during Hurricane Season. This system allows forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami to coordinate their forecasts, watches and warnings with the many NWS Forecast offices that may be impacted by any given tropical storm or hurricane. The two other phones are used to communicate with emergency management officials within our county warning area. Underneath the phones are various telephone directories and instructions for using our equipment.
Next, we have our conference room. It is here we conduct our local office training, as well as have meetings and greet guest speakers. Note the computer and the projecter used for local training.
Next, on to the Weather Radio!
