WEDNESDAY FOR THE ATLANTIC COASTAL WATERS FROM FENWICK ISLAND
TO CURRITUCK BEACH LIGHT...INCLUDING THE CHESAPEAKE BAY SOUTH
OF NEW POINT COMFORT...

PERSISTENT ONSHORE WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WILL ALLOW FOR A 
GRADUAL RISE IN WATER LEVELS ALONG THE VIRGINIA...NORTHEAST
NORTH CAROLINA...AND MARYLAND COAST TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY.
THESE WINDS ARE THE RESULT OF STRONG HIGH PRESSURE OVER
NEW ENGLAND COMBINING WITH A SLOW MOVING LOW PRESSURE 
SYSTEM OFF THE NORTH CAROLINA COAST.

A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT AT LEAST MODERATE COASTAL
FLOODING IS EXPECTED IN THE NEXT 12 HOURS FOR THE MENTIONED
AREAS.

THIS MORNING MINOR FLOODING OCCURRED IN PORTSMOUTH AND NORFOLK
IN LOW LYING AREAS. WATER LEVELS WERE ABOUT 1.5 TO 2 FEET ABOVE
NORMAL. MINOR FLOODING WAS ALSO REPORTED NEAR SWAN BEACH IN
CURRITUCK COUNTY NORTH CAROLINA.

AS PERSISTENT ONSHORE WINDS CONTINUE...FLOODING WILL INCREASE A
LITTLE WITH EACH SUCCESSIVE HIGH TIDE THROUGH WEDNESDAY.
RESIDENTS IN LOWER MARYLAND AND THE VIRGINIA EASTERN SHORE...
NORFOLK...HAMPTON ROADS...AND PORTSMOUTH CAN EXPECT TIDES TO
BE 3 FEET ABOVE NORMAL THIS EVENING...AND 3 TO 4 FEET ABOVE
NORMAL TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY. THIS WILL RESULT IN MODERATE
FLOODING AT HIGH TIDES THIS EVENING AND ON WEDNESDAY. CONDITIONS
WILL IMPROVE SLOWLY LATER THIS WEEK.
