Location of WFO Wakefield, VA   The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Virginia is located on Route 460, one mile west of the town of Wakefield in Sussex County.  We have county warning responsibility for 66 jurisdictions, which includes 15 independent cities and 51 counties in east-central Virginia, northeastern North Carolina, and the Lower Maryland Eastern Shore.  This area includes the Richmond and Norfolk metropolitan areas.  The population within our County Warning Area is approximately 3 million.
