THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WAKEFIELD VA HAS CONFIRMED A TORNADO
NEAR HAMPTON IN HAMPTON COUNTY VIRGINIA ON JUN 2 2012 .

THE TORNADO BEGAN AS A WATERSPOUT TOUCHDOWN WITH POWER FLASHES ON THE
MONITOR MERRIMAC BRIDGE. ITS TRACK WENT OVER CHESAPEAKE AVENUE...
THROUGH DOWNTOWN HAMPTON...TO THE HAMPTON YACHT CLUB BEFORE MOVING
INTO THE CHESAPEAKE BAY.

TENTS AT THE BLACKBEARD FESTIVAL WERE BLOWN OVER. HUNDREDS OF
HOMES WERE DAMAGED AT BOTH THE MERRIMAC SHORES AND WITHE
NEIGHBORHOODS. AT THE HAMPTON YACHT CLUB...WINDOWS WERE BLOWN OUT
AND THE ROOF WAS PARTIALLY DAMAGED. THE HAMPTON ROADS SEA FOOD
BUILDING ON SUNSET ROAD ALSO EXPERIENCED ROOF DAMAGE.

   THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WAKEFIELD VA HAS CONFIRMED A TORNADO
   NEAR PETERSBURG VIRGINIA ON JUN 1 2012.
THE TORNADO TRACKED APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES BEGINNING ON THE WESTERN
   EDGE OF FT. HAYES COMMON...WHERE A COUPLE OF TREES WERE DAMAGED. IT
   THEN CONTINUED NORTHEAST THROUGH PORTIONS OF THE BATTLEFIELD PARK,
   OAKHURST AND EAST WALNUT HILL SECTIONS OF PETERSBURG. THE TORNADO
   THEN CROSSED INTERSTATE 95, CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE, MAINLY WINDOWS
   BLOWN OUT AND SIGNS DAMAGED, JUST EAST OF THE INTERSECTION OF RT.
   460 AND HICKORY HILL ROAD. THE LAST DAMAGE/DEBRIS WAS OBSERVED ON
   THE NORTH SIDE OF THE PETERSBURG NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD. THE TORNADO
   DAMAGE WAS CHARACTERIZED BY TREES, LARGE LIMBS AND POWER LINES DOWN.
   A NUMBER OF TREES FELL ON HOMES. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE
   OCCURRED IN THE EAST WALNUT HILL NEIGHBORHOOD...AND THE NORTHEAST
   SECTIONS OF THE OAKHURST NEIGHBORHOOD.
