MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMANTS OF TROPICAL STORM TAMMY SURGED
NORTH ALONG THE EAST COAST OF THE UNITED STATES LATE IN THE FIRST 
WEEK OF OCTOBER 2005. THIS MOISTURE WAS LARGELY RESPONSIBLE FOR A 
LARGE SCALE HEAVY RAIN EVENT FOR PARTS OF THE MIDDLE ATLANTIC AND 
NORTHEAST STATES. THE HIGHEST RAINFALL TOTALS OVER THE NWS WAKEFIELD 
COUNTY WARNING AREA TOPPED OFF IN THE 8 TO 10 INCH RANGE WHICH RESULT 
IN WIDESPREAD FLASH FLOODING OVER NORTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA AND SOUTHEAST
VIRGINIA.

FLASH FLOODING DUE TO HEAVY RAINFALL OCCURRED OVER PARTS OF NORTHEAST
NORTH CAROLINA AND SOUTHEAST VIRGINIA. MANY ROADS WERE CLOSED DUE TO 
HIGH WATER. ALSO...RESIDENTS OF SOME APARTMENTS BUILDINGS IN NEWPORT 
NEWS AND PORTSMOUTH VIRGINIA HAD TO BE EVACUTED DUE TO FLOODING. 
DAMAGE TO THE COTTON CROP IN PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST VIRGINIA WAS SAID
TO BE EXTENSIVE.
