Severe Thunderstorms of July 1, 2001

A sharp cold front and strong upper level trough combined to produce widespread severe weather across eastern New York and adjacent western New England on July 1, 2001. A squall line developed across western New York during the morning and moved rapidly east producing some of the severe weather. However, many of the severe storms developed out ahead of the squall line in a warm unstable airmass.
