Heavy rain band
This cross-section (from Delmarva to southeast Michigan) shows the pattern of frontogenesis associated with the heavy rain band in western New York at 06 UTC. The front appears to be associated with 3 distinct maxima of frontogenesis. One maxima was located near the surface, and associated with the "feeder" band, one was located between 850 and 700 mb, and associated with the primary heavy rain band, and one was located in the upper-troposphere.
