Lake Erie ice cover Jan 9th, 2001

This image was taken at 10:45AM on January 9th.  This was the first clear day in awhile and it allowed us to get a nice view of the ice cover on the lake.  The only spots with open water are over a portion of the western part of the lake and just east of Long Point. The western area that looks open more than likely has a lot of ice cover, it is probably not ice that is held fast yet. Southwest winds may have opened a portion of this break in the western ice cover.
