Lake Erie ice cover Feb 3rd, 2001

It was tough to get a nice cloud-free day across the region over the past couple of weeks.  The lake is mostly cloud-covered here, but the ice on the west end shows up well.  Under the banded clouds on the western 2nd quarter of the lake, the darker gray is ice cover as well.  The east end is too cloud-covered to pick out any ice.  I found it interesting to note that those banded clouds developed over significant ice cover.  There still must be some heat and moisture flux through the ice pack (which may not be a solid cover) to produce those clouds.
