Solar Pillar on Christmas Day

It was very cold on Christmas, but if you were up at sunrise you might have been lucky enough to see the solar pillar formed by ice crystals in the air.  Usually you only get to see sights like this when you have a thin veil of cirrus clouds overhead.  However, with temperatures hovering around zero this morning we had the same phenomena occurring down at ground level.  On either side of the solar pillar we also saw "sundogs" or false suns.  Below is a picture of the sun dog that was located to the left of the solar pillar.  These images were taken with a digital camera looking east from the Buffalo Airport.
