The Canadian radar network offers a mosaic of several radars and provides an
excellent overview of lake effect snowbands across all of the Great
Lakes. In this loop you can see the connection that develops between the
snowband off Lake Huron and the downwind band off Lake Ontario. Research
using the MM5 mesoscale computer model by SUNY Oswego and Brockport along with
NWS forecast offices at Buffalo and Binghamton indicates that these connections
can enhance snowfall activity downwind of Lake Ontario.
