The Snowbands At a Distance

These images were taken from the Buffalo Airport during the morning of Wednesday, December 22, 1999.

Here is a look at the Lake Erie snowband taken from the Buffalo Airport  looking to the SSW (toward Hamburg, NY) at 8:00 AM.   The plume of smoke in the foreground is coming from the SSW. (the immediate foreground is what's left of the Westinghouse Complex).

A closeup view of the same band off lake Erie.  Notice the convective structure to these clouds.

Looking to the northwest, we can see the Lake Ontario cloudband at the western end of Lake Ontario.  There are fewer convective cloud elements visible in this band in this image, possibly because this is the origin point of the band.  I am sure it was much more convectively active at the eastern end of Lake Ontario.
