"Lake Effect" Type Snows Across Scandinavia Arctic air is funnelled down the Gulf of Finland as a huge High over Siberia produces low level easterly flow.  The result is the development of the same type of convective snowbands that occur in the Great Lakes, the west coast of Japan and other locations around the world.
