Fig 5.  In the 4-panel reflectivity image below you can actually see a southward progression of radar echoes over Lake Ontario during the evening of November 9, 1996 (Probably birds).  Rain showers were also apparent, moving steadily from the WSW across Lake Erie at the southwest corner of each image.  Observed radiosonde winds were from the WSW to W, but the radar dervied VAD profile indicated winds below 7000 ft. from the N to NNW.   The radar was in VCP21 and precipitation mode.
