Fig 7.  Comparison of the wind profile valid 0000 UTC 10 November, 1996 from the Buffalo upper air sounding, the VWP, and the 12-hr forecast sounding from the eta model. "ND" indicates no data available.  Note that the upper air sounding and the forecast wind profiles compare very favorably, but the radar derived winds differ significantly from the other two sources between the 2000-5000ft levels.  Those winds more than likely are actually dereived from the movement of birds on a southward migration.
