WSR-88D Buffalo 0.5 Degree Reflectivity Loop
June 2nd, 1998  5:20PM - 7:20PM

The above radar loop shows the progress of the severe thunderstorms that crossed Western New York.  There are a number of severe cells on this image.  The tornadic cell moves from just west of Buffalo across central Erie county and then Wyoming county where it drops the tornado. A second severe cell crosses Cattaraugus and Allegany counties toward the end of the loop.  This cell produced straight line wind damage as it raced across that area.  Finally, a couple of smaller cells that crossed Niagara and Orleans counties to the north of Buffalo produced extensive hail that resulted in substantial damage to the cherry crops in that area.
