Hello Everyone,

My name is Tony Sturey.   I was recently selected as the Warning Coordination Meteorologist (WCM) at the Caribou Maine National Weather Service (NWS) Office.  My family and I are moving from Louisville Kentucky, to the Caribou area, in mid May. We are very excited about our new job assignment, as well as participating in new adventures and enjoying the quality of life in Maine.

A little about myself and our family.  I’m 44 years old, married, and have a young daughter.  I’ve been married to my wife Patrice for 12 years, and our four year old daughter, Jenna Marie, is about to turn five.  I grew up in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk Virginia, and began my NWS career in 1983.  (Note, when I was young I used to drive my mom and dad crazy watching the snow outside while peeking out the door).

My previous job assignments in the NWS include stops at Jackson Kentucky, Milwaukee Wisconsin and Louisville. (My wife is a hearty soul from Wisconsin). While at these mentioned locations I’ve had the opportunity to work with various outside agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), The United States Coast Guard (USCG), The United States Forest Service (USFS), as well as such private companies as Toyota and General Electric. I’ve also been involved in local outreach activities such as visiting with emergency managers, local government officials, various schools and law enforcement personnel. I recently co-authored a paper concerning a technique to help forecast different types of winter precipitation. This paper was presented to the media in Louisville and Lexington Kentucky and was given time for presentation at the national American Meteorological Society (AMS) conference in Seattle Washington earlier this year.

My hobbies include golfing (when I have the time), cross country skiing, reading techno thrillers, (Tom Clancy favorite author), bike riding, hiking, grilling out and wine tasting. I plan to take up snowmobiling this coming winter, once we are settled in.

I much prefer the family life to the fast lane, and my friends describe me as easy going and a good listener. I look forward to learning more about Maine and the history of Maine.  I also look forward to meeting all the folks in the various communities, and learning from your experiences, your knowledge and your expertise.

See you all soon.

Warm Regards,

Tony Sturey
