...FILING A FLOAT PLAN... THE FOLLOWING IS A
SAFE BOATING MESSAGE FROM THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD AUXILIARY SOUTHPORT
The boating season is upon us in full force. All boat owners want to be out on the water and have a
good time. One of the best ways to enjoy your boat and the time on the water is to file a float plan with a
friend or neighbor.
What/s that you say, what is a float plan? This is a simple notice given to someone who would miss you if you
did not return at a given time. It should include a description of your boat, the registration number, who is on
board and where you were going. It should also include when you expect to return and a cell number as another way
to reach you.
I know that it sounds silly but when the Coast Guard is called to start a search for an overdue boater they will
need this information to insure that they start at a spot nearest where you were going to effect an early rescue.
Boat safely...file a float plan. Let people that care know where you were going.
THIS MESSAGE WAS
BROUGHT TO YOU BY... THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD SOUTHPORT ...YOU'RE IN
COMMAND. BOAT RESPONSIBLY!... $$ |
