Accumulating Hail - Near Beavercreek, Ohio

    04/28/2008

Photographer's description: Most of the hail was around pea size, but there was mixed-in hail up to 1/2 inch in size. Total accumulation was 3/8 inch. Total hail amount fell in fifteen minutes.

    Additional notes

Even though surface temperatures were only around 50 degrees, temperatures dropped even colder aloft, with temperatures falling below freezing just a few thousand feet off the ground.  This allowed strong thunderstorms to develop, and the cold air was favorable for small hail.
