Additional notes
The total destruction of the
well-constructed office building in this photo is consistent with
EF4
damage. This suggests winds between 140-170 mph.
The tornado that caused this damage tore a
devastating path across Xenia, Ohio during the Super Outbreak of 1974.
The tornado, rated F5
on the old Fujita scale, killed over 30 people, injured 1100, and
destroyed more than 1000 homes. Some of the F5
damage that this tornado inflicted on Xenia can be seen elsewhere in
this photo gallery.

Tornado Warning
Safety Note: If you are
working in an office building when a tornado warning is issued, get to a
small, interior room on the lowest floor such as a bathroom or storage
closet. Stay away from windows or other objects which may become
dangerous projectiles. If you are working on an upper floor, get
to the lowest floor by using the stairs, not the elevator, so you do not
become trapped if power is lost. Interior stairwells work well as
tornado shelters.
