The thin line of thunderstorms in this radar image does not appear severe. However, very strong winds in excess of 55 mph existed just off the surface. Click the link to the velocity image for a look at these winds. All it took was a modest thunderstorm downdraft to bring these winds to the ground, which were enhanced by the slight bowing structure of the line. This resulted in numerous reports of wind damage across the Miami Valley.
