Additional notes
Several signs of drought stress to corn are
displayed in this photo. Stressed fields such as this one usually
have lighter, sandy soils when starved of moisture. Also several
stalks have shown stunted growth, and others are beginning to turn brown
over halfway up the plant.
Rainfall amounts from May through August 2007 across southern Ohio were
roughly 30% of normal. Southern Ohio was classified as D3, or
extreme drought, by the
U.S. Drought
Monitor.
