Despite the extreme danger lightning presents to life and property, it occurs in all thunderstorms and does not necessarily mean a storm is severe.  Therefore, spotters are asked not to report frequent cloud to ground lightning or lightning damage to the National Weather Service.  If lightning has caused damage to a structure, contact your local emergency officials.
